To update [Wed 1st Feb, 2023 03:45 GMT]: The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has now provided a statement in response to IGN’s story, saying it remains committed to E3. Here it is in its entirety:

As you’ve probably seen, IGN posted an article last night about E3. While we can’t comment on the specific statements in the article, we wanted to share our commitment to moving forward with E3.

E3 has a rich history within our industry, and we’re always encouraged to feel the passion for the show and hear what it means to different people. Reviving a trade show after a three-year hiatus and a global pandemic was always going to have its challenges, so we conducted an extensive search (in consultation with ESA member companies) to identify the best partner to produce E3. By selecting ReedPOP as our partner, we were able to leverage their rich history of hosting popular industry events like PAX and broader consumer shows like Comic Con.

They have made great progress in reshaping the event and have received tremendous support from industry companies of all sizes who are not only thinking about E3 2023, but also how E3 fits into marketing plans for 2024 and beyond. .

It is important to note that as the program evolves and adapts, it will not affect the core of ESA’s work for its member companies. Our priority continues to be the defense of your political interests at the state and federal level.

We will share E3 related news and developments as they become available. If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to contact me. Thank you very much for your continued support.

Original article [Tue 31st Jan, 2023 00:45 GMT]: E3 will return as a physical event for the first time in four years in 2023, and while it was expected to be a return to form for one of the biggest showcases on the gaming calendar, it looks like it could be without the major players.

According to an “exclusive” from IGN, the gaming news outlet has been informed by “multiple informed sources” that Nintendo, Sony, and Xbox will not be joining the E3 2023 fun and will also not have a “presence” at the show. . floor in the Los Angeles Convention Center.

While it’s no surprise that Nintendo doesn’t host an exhibit at the event, as noted in the report, the Japanese company has traditionally maintained a booth at E3 year after year.

The article goes on to mention how PlayStation originally dropped out of the event in 2019 due to “reported disagreements” with the ESA and Xbox this year already announced its own summer showcase and will reportedly not have a booth at this year’s event.

In a statement last September, ReedPop said it was ready to “bring the industry together” with the annual gaming event. completeisclosure: Nintendo Life and its Media Sister sites are associated with ReedPop.

ReedPop gave IGN a statement about their report, suggesting that negotiations are ongoing with “many of the biggest companies in the industry”:

E3 is such an important event for the video game industry and being entrusted with a major cultural touchstone is not a responsibility ReedPop takes lightly. Since ReedPop took over the contract to run E3 six months ago, we’ve worked diligently with ESA members based on your feedback to create a new type of E3 that supports your goals and needs.

This process has taken time due to the sheer number of stakeholders offering input, although we do appreciate that we could have been more transparent with the questions for which we were still finalizing answers. We continue to work tirelessly to create a show that unites the global gaming industry. We believe we have created a new format for the event that meets the needs of both the industry and its fans, and we are committed to building and growing it for years to come.

As we spent much of 2022 refining how E3 2023 would take shape, reflecting on the feedback we solicited, we didn’t send a single contract to an exhibitor until earlier this month. We’ve received a tremendous amount of interest and verbal commitments from many of the largest companies in the industry, and when we’re ready to announce the exhibitors, we’re confident it will be a lineup that will make the trip to Los Angeles worthwhile. industry and consumers alike.
