A Calgary woman, and a huge Karen schtick fan, is unleashing her inner “Karen” by demanding a refund on a one-of-a-kind foodie event.

Brita Smith told Global News that she was delighted to learn that Karen’s Diner was scheduled to make a pop-up visit to town late last year.

“We were very excited,” he said. “We didn’t go out much, so we said, ‘Let’s get verbally abused.’”

Smith bought two “early bird” tickets to the popular experience, described as food served with sarcasm and insults by staff.

“A little over $40 for two tickets, which I thought was completely reasonable.”

She said the announcement said the event would take place in November. But November came and went, and she still hadn’t heard from the organizers.

Smith said that when he finally heard from Karen, he said he was told it would happen, but no date had been set yet.

“Excuse me. You planned all this. You’re selling tickets. And you don’t have a location or dates?

Smith said he finally received another email last weekend with new dates scheduled for Calgary. Along with the date was a link for a new price.

“I thought I already had my tickets,” he said. “So, I go and now it’s going to cost about an extra $80 for us both to go.”

Smith said what was originally a cheap night out became too expensive. He then asked for a refund.

“All I got was an email saying, ‘Ok, I’ll talk to my manager and get back to you.’ And I haven’t heard anything.

Global News contacted the organizer of the event.

In a statement, they said: “…everyone was offered a refund as the event was delayed, notified as soon as it was delayed and also offered to change to the tour date.”

The event organizer said the pushback was due to “stage layouts”. When asked why the ticket price was increased, Global News was told there was a “miscommunication.”

“The tickets were for two different things. The Early Birds that were purchased last year are for the permanent dining room that will open later this year,” the explanation read.

“This is Karen’s Diner on Tour, which is a pop-up coming to Calgary for a very short period, which has nothing to do with the longer-term pop-up. However, as the original plan progressed, we offered all of our previous clients the option to move/credit the event for this one to be held earlier if they prefer.”

A more detailed explanation read: “Our tickets for the tour only went live this week, so you would have had Early Bird tickets to the restaurant for the long haul, which would have acted as a coupon off your meal bill at the restaurant later. long term”.

Organizers told Global News that the team will contact Smith to clarify what happened and will refund him if he decides to go down that route.

But Smith told us that the only route he wants to take right now is the one that gets him his money back.

“At this point, I have lost all interest. They have been cheating on me for so long that I have lost interest and I really don’t want them to keep my money.”
