A huge batch of leaked GTA 6 images have surfaced online, confirming numerous details about the long-awaited crime party.
Spanning a wide variety of games in progress, the leaked images give us our first glimpse of GTA 6 in action, albeit in a completely unpolished state. Shooting and other gameplay features are shown, while character details and settings are hinted at within the environment.
Everything is very unfinished. Overlaid with debug information and technical metrics, the footage is clearly taken from an ongoing build of the game. But it is genuine. Rockstar confirmed that the leaked images are authentic and called for many of the videos and screenshots shared on social media to be removed.
That lets us piece together exactly what was confirmed.
Vice City returns
Corroborating a leak from earlier this year, the footage suggests that GTA 6 will take place in Vice City, Grand Theft Auto’s fictional version of Miami. The clips show numerous city signs and buildings with the words “Vice City” and “VCPD” written on the side of police cars (presumably an acronym for the Vice City Police Department).
But GTA 6 seems to be set in a modern version of the city. While 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was set in the mid-’80s, the presence of contemporary-looking smartphones and cars suggests that GTA 6 will bring the metropolis to the present day. Although it is not only the city that you will explore. Some rural areas are also shown, as well as what looks like a swamp. Some familiar spots will also return, including the Malibu Club and the Ocean View hotel.
Two Character Combo
The images suggest that GTA 6 will feature two leads, as well as the series’ first female main character. That lines up with a previous leak, which hinted at the game’s two protagonists and suggested that Rockstar was approaching the characters with more political sensitivity than in other games.
The footage shows a Latina woman named Lucia, according to purge information, and her accomplice Jason. They were previously described as a Bonnie and Clyde type couple, and this video certainly supports that. In a leaked video, the criminal duo are seen robbing a restaurant, holding up the cashier, and running away when the police arrive. Bonnie and Clyde are even mentioned by name in one of the debug menus.
Gunplay resembles that of GTA 5, with some new toys and features. The player is seen wielding various weapons, including an assault rifle, sniper, shotgun, pistol, and rocket launcher, along with makeshift weaponry such as a golf club. , baseball bat and crowbar. At one point, they throw their active weapon into their other hand and pick up a rifle from the ground to add to their inventory, both of which are new features.
Looks like you’ll also have new moves to play with. A leaked video showed the player leaning their entire torso out of a car window while aiming an assault rifle in a full 360-degree circle. In other places, the player turns prone, crouches for cover, and carries an NPC over their shoulder. That could allow for more stealthy, stealth-focused firefights.
A new weapon selection radial screen can also be seen. It appears to display a health kit or some kind of medicine, suggesting that players will be able to heal or buff themselves in the middle of the fight.
a lot of easter eggs
Even this leaked video shows off some callbacks and Easter eggs that fans will recognize from the wider GTA universe. Expect a lot of the business in the gaming world to return, with LTD Gasoline already showing up. Also featured is LifeInvader, GTA’s tongue-in-cheek social media platform and a thinly veiled parody of Facebook.
five stars or bust
Unsurprisingly, GTA 6 will feature the basic quest levels from the series. The images show a five-star system like the one in GTA 5, confirming that GTA 6 will not go back to the six-star system that previous entries in the series had.
But the police have had an update. If the police see him getting into a stolen vehicle, they will search for him, even after he has made his first escape. He is true to life: after all, cars do have license plates and it suggests that he will have to think harder about evading the law.
While the leaks didn’t show off GTA 6’s character customization features in full, we did at least get confirmation of their existence. Lucia, the main female character in the game, is shown in different outfits and hairstyles, confirming that your strands and hair can be customized. It will be interesting to see the depth of GTA 6’s character customization options after Saints Row leaned heavily into the feature earlier this year with its granular boss factory.
